Transfer completed for Helen Ley Respite Care Centre
Published date: 27 Apr 2012 at 4:45PM
The MS Society has transferred Helen Ley Respite Care Centre in Warwickshire to Castel Froma, a charity based in Leamington Spa.
Staff at the centre have transferred into the employment of the new provider, which has committed to offering high quality care for people with MS.
Helen Ley has remained open throughout the transfer process. Bookings can continue to be made by calling 01926 313 550.
Fourth and final transfer
Since we decided to move away from directly providing respite care in 2010, we have been working hard to find appropriate, alternative providers for our four respite care centres. Last year, we transferred Leuchie House in Scotland, and earlier this year, we transferred Woodlands in York and Brambles in Surrey to new care providers. We are pleased that with this final transfer, we have achieved what we set out to do.
By transferring the centres to alternative providers, we are able to support many more people affected by MS from across the UK to have choice and control to access the short breaks they want.
SBA Fund
We've already helped over 1,100 people through our new Short Breaks and Activities (SBA) Fund. We have awarded over 400 grants to date to support a huge variety of breaks and activities. Grants have been awarded for respite care, equipment hire, accessible transport, family holidays, taster sessions for a range of activities, and paid carers to accompany people on holiday.
Anyone with queries about the transfer of Helen Ley or the other centres, or about respite care and short breaks in general, should contact our Helpline on 0808 800 8000.
