How to plan the perfect MS Walk
1. Plan your route
This is the time to really think about how you want your event to look. Planning is the key but to get you started why not start thinking about:
- Where you'll hold your MS Walk
- If you need permission to hold your event in that location. You can check with the local council or landholder,
- If your route is accessible for everyone, including chair users or people with walking aids
- If there are enough rest areas and toilets.
2. Keep your walk safe and legal
Before you start organising your My MS Walk please have a look at our information about legal and safe fundraising to make sure everything runs smoothly.
We're here to help you to make sure your event is safe and fun for everyone, so please get in touch if you have any questions.
3. Make every step count
Set up a JustGiving page
Setting up a JustGiving page is the quickest and easiest way to kick-start your fundraising. You can set up a team page for everyone joining your walk and all fundraise together.
Personalise your fundraising page with pictures, updates and your reason for walking. You’re joining an incredible community from across the country and your story may inspire someone else to get involved or donate.
To get started, go to the My MS Walk JustGiving page
Think about businesses and groups in your local area that will be as passionate about stopping MS as you are.
Whether you're looking for a cash donation to cover the cost of venue hire, some prizes for a raffle or some volunteers to help out on the day, there are lots of generous people and organisations that you can ask.
4. Share your story
The bigger the event the more money you can raise to help stop MS, so why not tell as many people as possible about your event.
Contact your local media
Your local newspaper, radio or TV station can be a great way to let others in your community know about your event. Get your story out there!
If you need any help, contact our National Press Office at email@example.com.
When your My MS Walk is ready to go, make sure everyone knows about it!
You can share your JustGiving page on Facebook or Twitter and include it in your email signature.
Have you just done a practice walk? Why not share some of the images or videos on Instagram. Keep your supporters in the loop with regular updates on social media using #MSwalk.
Don’t forget your email contacts and internal websites, newsletters or noticeboards. Your friends, colleagues and employers will be keen to hear your news, see pictures and follow your progress.
5. Finish in style
On the day
There are lots of things you will need to think about on your event day. To help we've compiled a few important things to remember:
- check the weather and make sure you are prepared for anything
- make sure everyone comes prepared with plenty of water and food for the walk
- ensure everyone wears comfy shoes and clothing
- take lots of photos and videos and share on social media using #MSwalk.
- don’t forget to use your checklist for success to help you prepare for event day.
You did it! Now what?
When your walk is finished you have one of the most important jobs left to do and that's to thank everyone who has helped you along the way.
This could be anyone from your sponsors, people who walked, rolled or strolled with you or anyone who has contributed. Everyone will want to know how much you have raised and how many people you had participate.
Don’t forget to send in all your hard-earned money as well. Find out more about sending us your donations.
But most importantly, give yourself a huge round of applause. You're amazing!
