This accessibility statement applies to our website mssociety.org.uk, run by us (the MS Society).

We want everyone to be able to use our site. That means you should be able to do things like:

• change colours, contrast levels and fonts using your browser and device settings
• zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen and print to 200%
• navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
• navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
• listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text easy to understand. We write in plain English as standard. You can read more about this in our style guide.

How we comply with WCAG

We always aim to be fully compliant with the web content accessibility guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 AA standard. 

Following our website refresh, we are addressing these known fails:

• our search bar is missing a control label used by assistive technology to help users understand how to use it
• our breadcrumbs are truncated, meaning assistive technology can't always identify where each section links to
• our search filters need to provide more context for people using assistive technology to understand what's changing on the screen
• we need to change the colour used for our search pagination and form prompts to one with higher contrast against the background colour for people with blurred vision
• our sign up form email field doesn't have auto complete enabled to help users fill it in more easily
• some of our images have lots of descriptive text which could slow down assistive technology users
• on mobile view, the button to expand or collapse the main navigation menu does not have an accessible label so assistive technology users may not be able to access it
• on mobile view, assistive technology users have to tab through hidden elements they can't interact with, creating a confusing experience.

We will update our statement once we have addressed them and retested our website.

Accessibility training is compulsory for everyone who uploads content to our website. We make sure all our web editors understand our legal, moral and practical responsibilities towards universal access.

We prepared this statement on 26 April 2024. Before that, we last reviewed it on 20 May 2022.

We last tested this website on 10 April 2024. RNIB (Royal National Institute for the Blind) carried out the test on 13 pages representative of our content and functionality.
